Officer injured after being struck by vehicle in Manassas

MANASSAS, Va. (WUSA9) -- An officer is injured after his police motor unit was struck by a vehicle in Manassas, Va. Monday morning, police said.

The unit was hit around 10:25 a.m. in the left lane of westbound Hastings Dr., according to Manassas City police. The driver was trying to make a U-turn from the right lane, police said.

The officer is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Charges for the driver of the striking vehicle are still pending. Police said Hastings Dr. between Dumfries Rd/Route 234 and Hendley Road is currently closed for the investigation.


Police locate man after abduction of Manassas woman

MANASSAS, Va. (WUSA9) -- The man who abducted a woman from her Manassas home at knifepoint and sexually assaulted her in early April has been located by police.

Prince William County police have identified the suspect as Jorge Alberto Corea-Berrios, 34. The suspected abducted 25-year-old Yezmin Elizabeth Ruiz-Monchez early Saturday morning, police said.

The incident happened in the 8100 block of Portwood Turn in Manassas when Corea-Berrios entered the home, grabbed a kitchen knife and went into the victim's bedroom.

Woman located after knifepoint abuduction from Manassas home

MANASSAS, Va. (WUSA9) -- Police have located the 25-year-old woman who was abducted from a Manassas home early Saturday morning.

Police say the victim is receiving medical attention and detectives are continuing the investigation to confirm the identity of the suspect.

The incident happened around 12:30 a.m. in the 8100 block of Portwood Turn in Manassas, Va., according to authorities. The investigation shows that the suspect forced his way into the apartment, assaulted an occupant, grabbed a kitchen knife and then forced his way into the victim's room.

The man then took the victim, 25-year-old Yezmin Elizabeth Ruiz-Monchez of Manassas out of her room at knifepoint. The suspect cut the other person inside of the home. He was treated for his injuries, according to Prince William County Police Department.

Va. teacher's assistant charged with sexual battery

MANASSAS, Va. (WUSA9) -- A teacher's assistant at a Manassas school has been arrested and charged with two counts of sexual battery, police said.

Wesley Earl Phillips III, 20, of Manassas turned himself in Thursday, police said.

Detectives began investigating the sexual battery in February after the incident was reported to have occurred at the PACE-East School located at 14742 Joplin Rd in Manassas, according to the Prince William County Police.

It was reported that the incident occurred between September of 2013 to September 2014 and police say the victims were 14 and 15 years of age at the time of the assault.

Police say the investigation revealed that two female victims were inappropriately touched by the accused on school property while he was employed as a teacher's assistant.

Rockville man wanted for attempted strangulation

MANASSAS, Va. (WUSA9) -- A Rockville man is wanted for attempted malicious wound and attempted strangulation after an incident occurred in Manassas Wednesday, police said.

At approximately 8:35 a.m., police say officers responded to the 12100 block of Livingston Road to investigate a disorderly call.

Police say a 23-year-old victim reported that a known acquaintance confronted her and retrieved a pipe from his vehicle. The accused then approached the victim and a male acquaintance, police said.

The accused used the pipe to smash windows belonging to two businesses and two vehicles, police said.

The accused grabbed the victim around her neck in attempt to strangle her, police said. The accused fled prior to officers' arrival.

Police say the victim reported minor injuries and the victim's male acquaintance sustained laceration from the glass.
