Street Smart Education and Enforcement Campaign for Pedestrian Safety

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VIRGINIA . . . The Prince William County Police Department invites County residents to help observe pedestrian and bicyclist safety during the “Street Smart” education and enforcement campaign during the week of April 10-16.

This campaign is aimed at reducing the number of pedestrian and bicycle crashes with motor vehicles. During the campaign, police officers will focus attention on vehicle, pedestrian and bicycle violations that are known to contribute to these types of crashes:

• speeding, 

• running red lights, 

• running stop signs, and 

• not using headlights at night, or at any time when visibility is reduced.

I-95 Hot Lanes Project Takes Another Step Forward

The I-95 HOV/HOT Lanes project took another major step forward today with the approval by the National Regional Transportation Planning Board (TPB) to include the project in the 2011 Constrained Long Range Plan (CLRP) for the Metropolitan Washington Council of Government.  The Prince William Chamber of Commerce praised the Prince William County Board of Supervisors for their support of the new I-95 HOT Lanes project and the supportive votes today from Supervisors Mike May and John Jenkins who serve on the regional TPB Board.

Bus Delays Possible in Some Areas Due to Potential Flooding

There is a forecast for heavy rains and flooding tonight through Thursday night. If this forecast is accurate, then there may be flooding in some parts of Prince William County. These high water areas will potentially cause delays in bus operations Thursday morning, Thursday afternoon, and possibly Friday morning. If you live in these affected areas, the Office of Transportation Services will make every effort to get to your bus stops as quickly as possible. You should expect that some buses may be late due to rerouting. We will not know the precise areas that might be affected until after any potential flooding occurs.
