METROPOLITAN SCHOOL of the ARTS BALLET to PERFORM LA FILLE MAL GARDÈE; Sat. Apr. 25

Metropolitan School of the Arts’ (MSA), pre-professional ballet company of Lorton, Va. will perform the comedic, family-friendly spring ballet, La Fille Mal Gardée at two shows, 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., on Sat., Apr. 25 at the George Washington Masonic National Memorial Theater at 101 Callahan Drive in Alexandria, Va. MSA’s La Fille Mal Gardée is full of surprises with chickens and roosters, and spirited clog dances.  The Widow Simone is determined to marry her daughter Lise to Alain, a rich vintner’s son. But Lise is in love with Colas, a lowly farm hand, while Alain only has eyes for his own red umbrella.

CITY of MANASSAS HOSTS SPRING RECYCLEFEST; CELEBRATES EARTH DAY
In celebration of Earth Day’s 45th anniversary, the City of Manassas Public Works and Utilities is hosting its annual Recyclefest on Sat., Apr.4 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Manassas Transfer Station, located at 8305 Quarry Road. Residents can recycle items and shred documents for FREE, check out recycling craft demonstrations, enter an American Disposal raffle contest to win Washington National tickets, and take a look at an American Disposal trash truck. Manassas, Va. residents will be able to recycle their household hazardous waste, electronic waste, gently used clothing and even shred paper documents for FREE. Last year more than 400 residents attended Recyclefest, and brought more than 20,000 tons of recycling in just four hours.

METRO SCHOOL of the ARTS PERFORMS in “THE LAST FIVE YEARS” in DC; STUDENTS MAKE DIRECTORIAL DEBUT

Students of the Metropolitan School of the Arts (MSA) of Alexandria and Lorton, Va. will debut their first, student-directed, produced performance on Fri., Jan., 16 at 7:30 p.m., Sat., Jan. 17 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and Sun., Jan. 18 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at The Atlas Performing Arts Theatre at 1333 H Street., NE, in Washington, D.C. Tickets are $15 per person and can be purchased online at www.metropolitanarts.org.

The Last Five Years is a live production of Jason Robert Brown's masterpiece, which was recently rated one of the top five musicals of this decade. It premiered at Chicago's Northlight Theatre in 2001 and was then produced Off-Broadway in March 2002. The story explores a five-year relationship between Jamie Wellerstein, a rising novelist, and Cathy Hyatt, a struggling actress.
