Nominations open for Prince William Poet Laureate

Nominations are now open for the first ever Prince William Poet Laureate, a two-year position to be selected and filled under an exciting new Laureate program of the Prince William County Arts Council. The program is being administered by a special committee of the Arts Council under the leadership of June Forte, a member of Write by the Rails, the Prince William Chapter of the Virginia Writers Club.

Monza of Old Town Manassas, Va. collected 152 coats for the local community shelter, SERVE, during the Manassas Christmas parade. For every person that donated a coat, Monza gave away a $25 Monza gift card. For more information, call 703.434.3621 or go to www.eatmonza.com.

“Our holiday coat drive was a great success due to the generous support of the Manassas community,” said Miguel Pires, general manager of Monza of Old Town Manassas, Va. “SERVE does so much for those in need, it’s our honor to help them with their programs,” said Pires.

Colder weather has set in and that means people are turning up their thermostats and seeing higher utility bills.  The City of Manassas’ Operation Round Up is in full force, where customers that authorize the City of Manassas to "round up" their monthly electric bill to the next higher dollar. If the bill is $73.80, it is rounded up to $74 and the extra 20 cents is contributed to the Operation Round Up® fund.  Single donations from customers are also accepted, simply by adding the additional dollars to their payment with a notice that the overpayment is for Operation Round Up.  “It was wonderful to be back on the George Washington University campus and it was amazing to be able to sample so many delicious cakes,” said Sabrina Campbell, Occasionally Cake owner.

Both Alexandria cake boutiques offer more than 100 cake and gourmet cupcake flavors. Occasionally Cake is also renowned for their cake truffles. Instead of discarding leftover cake, it became the centerpiece of their cake truffles, and then dipped in Belgian chocolate.

Monza of Historic Manassas will be collecting gently used coats to donate to SERVE in exchange for a $25 Monza or Carmello’s gift card and free hot chocolate and coffee on Sat.,
Dec. 7 during the Greater Manassas Christmas Parade. Coat donations will be accepted from

10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Monza at 9405 Battle Street in Old Town Manassas, Va. Monza is also offering a half-priced pizza lunch after the parade. For more information, go to www.eatmonza.com.

“We all feel the drop in temperature, and for those in need, sometimes one warm coat is hard to come by which is why we wanted to help collect as many coats as possible for the our local SERVE program,” said Miguel Pires, general manager of Monza in Historic Manassas, Va. “SERVE has been instrumental in helping the neediest of our community and we hope people will be able to help us be able to give back, and enjoy a free coffee and gift card on us,” said Pires.

Metropolitan School of the Arts (MSA) of Lorton, Va. will host their annual Breakfast with Santa on Sun., Dec. 8 at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Hotel Monaco, 480 King Street in Old Town Alexandria. ThFrosty Follies’ performers will join Santa for the annual Breakfast with Santa. The family-event offers Sunday brunch at the Hotel Monaco in Old Town Alexandria, complete with a live jazz performance from Metropolitan School of the Arts’ dancers, interactive song and dance workshop for the kids, special goody bags and visits from Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Suzy Snowflake and her International Dolls.
