Four Local Businessmen Combine Expertise to Open B-Thrifty, the Region’s Largest Thrift Store

Backgrounds include renewable energy, business consulting, real estate and retail

Four local businessmen, each of whom have been the driving forces behind successful start-up ventures across an array of industries, have recently come together for their latest business endeavor, B-Thrifty. A super thrift store and international bazaar where customers can shop for great savings and the best bargains around from over 250,000 items of inventory, B-Thrifty will be located at 13412 Jefferson Davis Highway in Woodbridge, VA, and will open to the public on August 20, 2011.

The founding partners behind B-Thrifty include Diego Belmonte, Joon Park, Christopher Travieso and Alonso Zamora. All of which have combined their varied professional backgrounds and entrepreneurial expertise to create the concept of B-Thrifty.

Diego Belmonte, a successful business owner and renewable energy expert, founded Esound Energy, an integrated sustainable project development, investment and boutique consulting company dedicated to capitalizing on the economic, social and ecological potential of renewable energy technologies. He has over 15 years experience structuring, managing and closing on over $2 billion in renewable energy and infrastructure projects pertaining to international markets. Belmonte’s success and knowledge of the entrepreneurial world will play a key role in the success of B-Thrifty.

Joon Park, another key component in the B-Thrifty team, has an extensive background in several start-up ventures including retail, restaurant and automotive industries. After beginning his career as a business analyst, he fulfilled his lifelong passion of starting his own business by founding Jade Capital & Investments LLC, a management consultant company that specializes in small and mid-size businesses in the greater Washington, D.C. area. As a founding partner, Park is responsible for managing a portfolio of commercial investment properties and oversight of retail businesses in the gas, car wash, specialty retail and restaurant industries. Park’s skill set and knowledge of all things financial and retail will ultimately aid in B-Thrifty’s financial prosperity.

Christopher Travieso, born in Caracas, Venezuela, had his first taste of business at the ripe age of 14 when he bought a used vehicle and hired a driver to serve as a taxi. He then went on to start a clothing store and become a car salesman at 17. He came to America and resided in Silver Spring, where he began working in an auto body shop.  Two years later, he opened his own auto body shop and trucking company. In addition to his entrepreneurial accomplishments, Travieso holds a real estate license as well as a certificate as a black belt instructor. His unwavering work ethic and experience in the retail world will prove invaluable to B-thrifty.

The last piece in the B-Thrifty puzzle is Alonso Zamora, who is an example of how hard work and persistence are the keys to success. Zamora began working at the age of 12 performing odd jobs ranging from a being the valet at Georgetown Club to a lifeguard and even a newspaper delivery boy for Washington Star.  He relocated to Chicago in his late teen years, where he worked for a sub-contractor for Oprah Winfrey. He moved back to the D.C. area and invested his time and money into Grassroots, Inc. a landscaping business that he ran for eight years. Next, he spent five years as a partner in Tysons Art & Jewelry (Pawn) shop where he learned about financing and investing.  He started his own residential construction business, and eventually   expanded to investing in a wide range of companies including marble & granite, home theater, importing/exporting, mobile banking, mobile advertising, real estate and non-profit.

B-Thrifty was the brainchild of Travieso, who developed the idea to start a thrift business after learning about the concept and its potential for success three years ago.  Travieso had worked with Belmonte in the auto repair business, and the two reconnected to open B-Thrifty.  Meanwhile, Zamora and Park were real estate partners, and were introduced to Travieso and Belmonte through mutual business contacts.

B-Thrifty will open to the public with a Grand Opening Celebration on Saturday, August 20 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm with giveaways, special offers and great bargain shopping all day.   Guests will enjoy free food/drinks, free backpacks to the first 1,000 customers, $100 B-dollars (store credit) to the first ten customers in line and $25 B-dollars to customers No. 11 through No. 50.  Visitors will also have the opportunity to meet local celebrities/professional athletes and hunt for 50 golden eggs each containing $50 B-dollars hidden throughout the thrift store.
