Dominion Asks For Rate Increases

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Dominion Virginia Power is asking state regulators for rate increases related to converting three power plants from coal to biomass, and for two other plants.

The energy provider is planning to convert stations in Altavista, Hopewell and Southampton County by 2013. Dominion is asking the State Corporation Commission to increase the monthly bill for a typical residential customer by 14 cents starting April 2012.

Dominion also is asking for increases related to its Bear Garden Power Station in Buckingham County and its Virginia City Hybrid Energy Center in Wise County. If approved, those increases would total $1.17 per month for a typical residential customer starting April 2012.

Rate adjustment clauses allow utilities to collect financing costs over time as projects begin in order to lessen the impact on customer bills.

Are You A Weiner, A Whiner, Or A Winner?

Are You A Weiner, A Whiner, Or A Winner?

With more than 14 million Americans currently looking for work, it is definitely a buyer’s market out there.  Companies understandably want to hire the best candidates they can find.  With so many people to choose among, businesses are looking beyond black-and-white credentials such as education and experience to identify prospective employees who bring something more to the table, such as basic common sense.

In this regard, New York Congressman Anthony Weiner’s recent fall from grace should serve as an object lesson for anyone who has a job...and especially for anyone who is seeking a job.

Washington Animal Rescue League - Every Dog Deserve

This story comes to us from Dana Metz:

On Tuesday, June 28 the Washington Animal Rescue League will receive a donation of 10,000 pounds of dog food from Pedigree as part of The

Every Dog Deserves program, in an effort to help feed dogs who need it most – those in shelters – and provide them the leading nutrition they

deserve, while they wait to find their forever homes.

IMPORTANTLY, This shelter is not using the donation to feed their own dogs. Since D.C. has been hit hard by the recession and many low-income residents have to choose between feeding themselves and their “beloved companions”, the Washington Animal Rescue League is sending this large donation to their Pet Food Bank where residents in need can get dog food free of cost.

What would you expect a four-and-three-quarter-year-old to say at the end of a four-and-a-half-mile hike that she just finished using her own two feet? “What a wonderful day,” Sofi announced when we walked past the old Tavern (that I was wishing was still a tavern) at Great Falls National Park.
